Losing Weight - The Right And The Wrong Way

by Sarah Leroy

There is a right way and a wrong way to lose weight. The right way is, off course, to lose it and keep it off. The wrong way is, as you can imagine, to not lose any at all or lose some initially, but then gain it back. And as it usually happens, when you regain weight, you gain more than you initially lost. Sounds familiar?

Today, more than 60% of Americans are overweight. Many of them try very hard to lose weight, but only a few of them, less than 5% actually, are successful in the long term. How can this be? The answer is - they are not doing it the right way. The fact is that the mainstream diets don't work. But why?

This is because the majority of mainstream diets are so called reduction diets. Everything with low in it. You know - low fat, low carb, low calorie, etc. The reason why it's so hard or nearly impossible to achieve long term weight loss with these diets lies in a way our bodies deal with starvation. After all, these diets are starvation diets.

Our bodies have good mechanisms to cope with extreme calorie deficits that this diets impose. When you starve, your body goes into so called starvation mode. When this happens it will become energy saving fat-storing machine, trying to survive on as little energy as possible. You know when this happens when you hit the plateau.

But it gets worse. Once you start eating normally again, the body still remains in this mode for a while. This is the reason why you gain weight faster than you ever thought possible. Soon, you end up weighing more than you did before you started dieting.

The bottom line, starvation is not the answer. There are much better ways to lose weight. One of them is a relatively new method called calorie shifting or calorie cycling.

Calorie shifting works by tricking the metabolism into working fast and burning stored fat reserves. You do that without starving yourself. You eat six proper small meals a day. Off course, no junk food. You are even allowed to have cheat days, when you can eat whatever you want. Easy to follow and it works.
